Seaton Sluice lies on the Northumberland coast midway between Whitley Bay & Blyth. Seaton Sluice was originally called Hartley Pans because of the salt pans that were used to make salt there from as far back as 1236. Seaton Sluice has a population of around 3,000 people. Originally a port for the export of coal and salt Seaton Sluice became a local centre of glassmaking in the late 16th Century. The area is now mainly residential and there are always a number of houses to rent in Seaton Sluice. The area is also known for Seaton Delaval Hall, built by Sir John Vanbrugh between 1718 and 1729, for Admiral George Delaval, and located on the outskirts of the village. The hall is now a Grade 1 listed building and is owned by the National Trust. Near to Seaton Delaval Hall is the Church of Our Lady, built by the Delaval family in the 12th century.
