Pelaw is a modern residential district that forms part of the Borough of Gateshead. It lies in between the older settlements of Heworth to the West and Bill Quay to the East with Wardley to the South. Pelaw’s origins date back to the Victorian era when the site became a huge manufacturing centre for the Co-Operative Wholesale Society. The mass of factories eventually fell into disuse, and were demolished between 1970 and 1990 to make way for modern housing estates. Today there are an excellent selection of houses and flats for rent in Pelaw. For families looking for homes to let in Pelaw, there are plenty of schools in the area, ranging from Nurserys to Comprehensive Schools. Pelaw has excellent transport links including Pelaw Metro Station. The Metro links the area to South Hylton & Newcastle and Pelaw is also served by a number of major bus routes. As well as the usual leisure facilities, Pelaw also sports the popular Bill Quay farm, which has many animals and can be visited free of charge.
