Marsden is an area located on the eastern outskirts of South Shields and was originally developed as a village to house miners from Whitburn Colliery. Today it is a pleasant residential area and there is a good selection of properties for rent in Marsden. Part of its popularity comes from its coastal location, with some properties even looking over the coastal route where the annual Great North Run finishes. The coastline has both sandy and pebble beaches and Marsden Bay features the well known landmark of Marsden Rock. The area is also known for the famous Marsden Grotto, the only restaurant and bar in a cave in the whole of Europe. Resident’s shopping needs are served by a selection of local convenience stores in Horsley Hill and in the nearby shopping area, locally known as The Nook. Transport within Marsden links the area with South Shields town centre and Sunderland. Families looking for homes to let in Marsden should note that there are a number of local schools including Marsden Primary School and Harton Technology College.
